The Galo is a group of people belonging to the Tani clan having similar traits and conduct, faith and practice, culture and tradition, and language. The Galo is a schedule tribe under the Indian constitution since 1950, vide Constitution (ST) Order 1950 Part-XVIII read with Constitution (ST) Amendment 2011. The Galo has its rich heritage culture handed down from time immemorial through its ancestors. The uniqueness in Galo is that they kept the name of its son or daughter by linking with its father’s name. Another unique character in Galo is that all the traditions, cultures, and festivals are all based on its faith system. The traits and conducts of Galo from birth to death are based on their ancestral faith only. Therefore, the Galo who own other faiths may face a little bit of social difficulty to survive in Galo society. The faith and practices in it are the point of attraction for the people from the outside.
However, the rich heritage culture of Galo is diminishing year by year due to globalisation and the invasion of the religion by missionaries. Therefore, to preserve its faith, culture, and tradition, the regulatory body to make the rules and to regulate has been formed by the indigenous Galo People. The name of the regulatory body is Galo Indigenous Faith & Cultural Council (GIFCC). The council was formed/established in 16/05/2012 and appointed Shri Nyamo Doji as Interim President and Shri Hendo Taipodia as General Secretary respectively till General Body Meeting of GIFCC is held. Thereafter, on 22/12/2012 General Body Meeting of GIFCC was held under the chairmenship of Shri Tony Koyu in presence of galaxy of Galoo Indigenous veteran leaders and scholars. In this Governing Body Meeting of 22/12/2012, Shri Nyamo Doji was once again selected/re-appointed as President of GIFCC and Shri Bai Taba, as General Secretary of GIFCC to head and lead the council. As of now the GIFCC is affiliated with the Indigenous Faith and Cultural Society of Arunachal Pradesh (IFCSAP).
